Hiring a Guide

Thank author of this post/commentA person in my group mention that we should hire a guide to show us around Panama. Is it worth hiring a guide to show us the the in's and outs in Panama?

Thank author of this post/commentI think hiring a guide depends on what you want to do in Panama. If you want to explore villages, jungle or mountains in the interior, perhaps it's a good idea especially if you don't speak Spanish.

Thank author of this post/commentYou should be able to find a tour for most things to do in Panama. If you are staying at the resort, rent a car, grab a map and head out. But if you want to check out the city hire a taxi, find one who speaks at least some English and let him be your guide.

Thank author of this post/commentYeah, when I travel I used maps and sometimes help from locals. I usually find my way with the map. I have to admit I do get lost sometimes. I guess you have to do what makes you and your party feel comfortable.

Hi there, i would like to know some good travel tips in Panama. I am interested in visiting the said country and so it would be great if I know some good traveling tips. I would also like to know where to go when in Panama. Where could be the best places to hang out for visitors? I would be waiting for all of your response regarding this matter. Thanks a lot.

"Traveling"

First you must tell us a little bit about yourself. Are you traveling alone or in a group? Are you taking local transit or renting a car? What age group are you in? How much money do you have to spend on a daily basis?

These questions are important, if you are elderly and traveling alone, the recommendations would be different than if you were younger traveling with a companion.

I can tell you this, you really have no need to go to Colon in the Darien Province. It is located on the Eastern end of Panama and is sparsely populated with lots of jungle and high crime. If you must go, go with a guided tour. The Western Region of Chiriqui and the Province of Bocas del Toro are very beautiful with lots to do. You might want to research the Provinces of Panama for descriptions of each Province. Go have a great time, just make sure you do your research. Panama is a great country with friendly people. Use the same caution you would walking down any street in any country you are not familar with. Use good judgement and your brain. We have been many times and have loved every trip.
