Climate

Thank author of this post/commentWhat is the weather like in Panama? What can one expect weather wise if they were to travel there in June or July?

Thank author of this post/commentI think you'll find that temperature wise it is fairly consitent year around and probably rains more during the time you call summer in the USA.

I wonder when would be the best time to have a trip in the country of Panama. We are planning to have a trip there and so we would want to know the best part of the year or the best month that we are to visit the said country. It would be great if anybody here would post their ideas and suggestions regarding the matter. Thanks a lot :)

Thank author of this post/comment"Weather in Panama"

Edward temperature wise it may stay warm all year round, but there is a pretty distinct difference between the rainy and dry season. I heard it rains almost constantly between May and January! Is that true?

"Weather"

Panama has two seasons Rain and Sun. Around May until December, it rains almost every day. But it usually doesn't rain all day. Most of the time you have beautiful mornings and early evenings. Then around 1 to 3 you will get your rain storm. Sometimes it last for 20 minutes sometimes it last for a couple of hours. It is so hard to predict. Early evenings are fairly nice as well. We have traveled down during all different times of the year and still can not predict whats going to happen weather wise. We will be leaving May 5th for another visit. Will let you know. We move down there permanently the end of this year.

Thank author of this post/comment"Afternoon Rain"

You can probably anticipate that the afternoon rains can often be torrential rainfalls. Short lived, but a lot of rain. Plan on being inside or getting WET!

Thank author of this post/comment""After Noon Rain May - November""

Yep, Jim and Dar had it right.

If you hate the rain, any time between December and Early April is safe. At least on the Pacific side. We very rarely see rain during those months.

The atlantic side will still get some rain during those months.

From Mid April - November, you will see big time rains, pretty much every day. Fortunately, they don't usually last that long (on the pacific side). You can usually wait them out. But, if you get caught in one, you are going to get wet.

When it rains, it rains hard!!

Thank author of this post/comment"Flood Risk?"

If it rains so hard in sudden downpours, and does this for so many months in a row, is flooding a big issue? Are the houses built to withstand this kind of moisture or is dampness and wet rot a big issue?

What about transport during the rainy season? I imagined I could walk or cycle to most places and not need a car, but if the roads aren't paved then surely they are just a big mucky mess with so much rain!

Thank author of this post/comment"Yes, there is flooding"

Flooding does happen. Especially in the provences and up in Bocas Del Toro where it can be severe.

Here in the city we get localized flooding on the streets. We have just had a big downpour. Been raining all night, and the street is washed out in one corner (that always floods). The old Colon highway used to be really bad for washing cars off the road, apparently.

People still drive. I saw one guy go through the puddle today and water was over its hood.

Fortunately, like I said earlier, usually, at least over on the Pacific side, you can wait out the rain and the flooding goes away pretty quickly. It depends where you live, and how you want to get around.

The houses are for the most part made out of concrete. So rot isn't that much of an issue, at least I have never heard about it. Other than in houses with a bunch of gypsum drywall, and that gets replaced fast after the first time it gets wet. Just make sure you have a place that is well built for the expected weather.
