depending on where you want to go. DO NOT DRIVE IN PANAMA CITY. So many cabs and so little road. In the city, it's only about $2. to $5. to go anywhere in city by cab. If you want to see the country, we rented a car and went up the PanAmerican highway and did just fine. Drove all the way to Boquete. Had a great time, took about 6.5 hours with stops. (No stops 5.25 hrs) Also learn to use your horn, they love the noise of a horn for some reason... I told my husband if I used my horn like that in the US I would be shot!!! Lots of places to stay along the way and had all the same hamburger joints. A great steak in Panama runs between $6.00 and $12.00. Car rental was $100. for a week with unlimited miles. Rent on line, its cheaper. Also must take their liability and the credit card company you use will probably provide collision. Hope this helps

Yes Dar, it is indeed a great help for us who are planning to have a trip in Panama. So it is much advisable to rent a car in the said country. By the way, if I am interested to ride on their public mode of transportation what would I expect? Are there buses in Panama? Is it safe for tourists to ride a bus while roaming the city? Thanks..

"Riding a Bus"

I have not traveled on a bus in the city as cabs are very cheap. City bus's are very full. They do have wonderful modern bus's to go up the Panamerican Hwy to David. Bus trips to David if I remember correctly, are about $10. for the 6-7 hr trip. A very good deal... Car rentals, as far as I'm concerned are the only way to go. Sorry if this is a little short but I'm on my way to an appointment and will return another day. Soooooo Sorrrry I'm late...
