Panama FoodWhat kind of food is Panama famous for? Any body have some good recipes we can cook up back home?
John a good friend of mine is a chef in Panama his e-mail is julioarias_g@hotmail.com you could write to him and I'm sure he'll be happy to let you know of any recipies that are local to Panama Greg
I have found Panamanian food to be terrible. In the US we feed livestock better than people are fed here. Why would anyone want recipes?
Because some people enjoy the culture... and maybe made in the USA with better beef the food would be better. BUT, if you really want good Beef.. go south. The USA can't touch the beef that you can get in Brazil, Argentina, or Uruguay. Not the price, not the flavor, not the quality.
Good easy Panama recipies for those disatisfied with eating grits(ugh!)Panama America newspaper (Recipies). Try the Arroz con Pollo. And if you feel lucky, try Rum Cake...pure heaven!
Shirley Ciric you are so ignorent for that comment you made... "I have found Panamanian food to be terrible" Not everyone has the same feeling on foods and for you to talk about a beautiful culture such as Panama's shows hope stupid you are. I think the only reason you may have found it terrible is because you tried making it yourself and it suked... Well next time be carefull what you say because you are speaking like an ignorent individual.
I am one of those people who like to experience food from different cultures. I hear that Panama has good seafood since it's in a good location. I am a big fan of the tortilla because Panama's tortilla is different from other countries. The tortilla is thicker and deep fried and goes great as nachos.
hi! I found this website a while back about recipes from Panama! I have made the first dish on the menu, as the ingredients are easy to find in my area! Check it out ... also there are great cook book selections in Barnes and Nobels, you might want to pick one up if you like the flavor of Panama :) Have a good day!
Thanks for adding the recipes! You said that you tried the empanadas. Are the empanadas like tortilla? I am thinking about trying the ARROZ CON POLLO.
Hi ReeseW The Empandadas I made were more Dumpling like that Tortilla like if I were to describe it. Very yummy though! If you do try the Arros Con Pollo (which looks great!) please let me know how it went! I just started trying about a year ago different cultures recipes ... Love making East Indian food too!
Our next door neighbor is from the Philippines and she makes Empanadas too. They're somewhat similar to the recipe that you posted. I'll have to try yours. Thanks for the post!!
I like the Arroz con Pollo recipe. I will have to try it out and especially like the fact that it's easy. LOL. I'm not the greatest cook in the world and the easier the recipe, the better. I'm going to try and make this on Saturday and will let you know how it turned out. Hopefully good!!
Let us know how it turns out Stephanie ... Share recipes if you have them too :) You need some liquid to wash down those Empandadas here's a great Panama drink called "Tropical Itch" Ingredients: juice of 1/2 lime dash of bitters (Angostura) 1/2 oz bourbon 1/2 oz rum (dark Jamican) dash orange curacao passion fruit juice 1 1/2 oz Lemon Hart 151 proof rum Directions: Fill large Collins glass with shaved ice. Squeeze 1/2 lime. Add dash of angostura bitters, bourbon Jamaican rum and orange curacao. Fill with more shaved ice. Float Lemon Hart 151 proof rum. Garnish with 18" straw, wedge of pineapple, and a cherry
Thank you for that recipe and the site where we can get more recipes. I too am someone who like to try different cultures. I agree on that comment about Shirley Cirric being a very rude person. Why would you put anything like that in a post. If you don't like the food then so be it but to say you wouldn't feed it to livestock? I can understand why you would say that in a country that serves Grits.... YUCKKKKK.... However, there are a lot of people who love grits and just cause I don't doesn't make them terrible at all. It is just my taste. Everyone is entitled to like or dislike food but to take your dislike to that point is very very rude.
Everyone is entitled to thier opinions :) This looks so good! I personally love Mango Salsa myself, or a tex mex salsa with Corn and Beans in it.... Ingredients: 4-5 Plantains (not real ripe) Wesson Oil Salt 3 Garlic Cloves (chopped finely) 1 can Chicken Broth Your favorite Salsa Directions: Heat chicken broth in a small saucepan. Add garlic. Let it sit until the plaintain is finished. Peel plantain. Cut into 1/2 inch slices. Heat 2 inches of oil in a heavy duty frying pan. Fry plantain a little at a time until it is slightly golden. Remove, drain on paper towels. Take a glass and flatten the plantain pieces. Return to the frying pan and cook until golden. Remove, drain on paper towels. Serve warm with the chicken broth and salsa as dips.
Serenifly - that looks like a great recipe - and it seems very simple to make. I am one who likes to cook if it's quick and easy!!
Hmm those receipes sound yummy. Will have to try them out.Too bad there isn't some way to share through the computer so one person can do one recipe and another person does another one and we can all get together for taste tests....LOL Wishful thinking. About being rude and telling people their food is no good and disgusting. Different cultures in different parts of the world are brough up on different foods and have different tastes. It doesn't make their food garbage and our food wonderful it just makes for different tastes in food.
2 cups sugar 1 cup flour 1/2 cup milk 3 cups soy sauce 3/4 cup of hot water mix together for about 3 to 4 minutes and put in oven for 20 minutes. then start making a source using: 2 cups chocolate bits 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup milk.
