Here's a recipe for drunk plantains that is quite tasty!DRUNK PLANTAINS 4 ripe plantains 6 tbsp. of butter 2 tbsp. of flour 4 tbsp. of sugar 2 Boquete oranges cut in thin slices (with rind) 1/2 cup of rum (any kind) 1/4 cup of corn syrup (Karo) 1 tbsp. of lemon juice grated half lemon Peel the plantains and cut them into 2-inch slices. In a large frying pan, melt the butter and brown the plantans slightly. In a bowl, mix the flour with the sugar and mix in the browned plantans. Grease a Pyrex bowl and spoon in the plantain mix. Cover with orange slices and rind. In a bowl, mix the rum, the lemon juice, grated lemon and corn syrup. Pour this mixture over the plantains, orange slices and rind. Bake at 350 for approximately 35 mins., dipping the plantains in its own juice. Trackbacks

Plantains sure seem to be popular in Panamanian recipes . what the heck is a plantain?! is it a nut? I could google it, but you all are so helpful! haha The name Plantain doesn't sound overly- appealing though haha

A fruit that looks like a Banana, but you better not have even a little taste of it raw.

If you don't like bananas, will you like plantains? And why not eat them raw? That's how bananas are eaten most frequently. I love bananas raw and cut up in milk with powdered sugar. But I don't like them in food or banana-flavored anything.

Plantains raw are hard, bitter, and will make your teeth turn black. The green ones are often cooked and eaten, but they are not too sweet and have a unpleasant (in my view) texture. It is like "bread fruit" which I also don't like much. The ripe ones are usually fried and are VERY sweet (unlike the recipies posted here you don't need a hint of sugar added. They are also deep fried and sold as chips. I would try the ripe fried plantains to get started... though the they look like bananas I don't think the flavor is the same.

That recipe sounds yummy. They sell plantain here in Canada at some of the grocery stores and I have often looked at them and wondered how you would use them.I have often thought of them as bananas and from what I'm hearing here I'm glad I didn't buy them to try as I would eat a banana. I will be trying that drunk plantain recipe though my mouth is watering already.

There's an Ethnic store here that sells plantains and I see lots of people buying them but have never even tasted them but with that recipe I think I'll have to go get me some and have myself a drunk plantain party. Ha ha!

I researched plantain over the internet and saw that it looks exactly like your normal bananas, well except maybe for their color and textures. I would like to taste a Panamanian food like "Drunk Plantain". There are also a number of other dish which can be made out from raw plantain, can you still share other recipes?
