Home Renting

I would like to get a realistic price idea of what it will cost me to rent a house in David or its outskirts? I am talking about a 2 br 2 b, with AC that is suitable for a woman alone in Panama. I have contacted some real estate agents and requested $400-$450 a month and I think they are still laughing.

- English websites highest prices

- Spanish websites

- English speaking real estate agents

- Spanish speak real estate agents

- Newspaper ads (Spanish only, of course)

- Signs on property

- Word of mouth.

Of course there are some exceptions and depending on the country, it may be necessary to have a trusted local make the initial contacts on your behalf.

Don't be sure they are laughing, they may just focus on more expensive properties. If a local contacts the same person and gets $200 prices then you know what's up.

Also, don't always believe everything the markets that go around screaming about how "cheap" everything is says. Absolutely nothing beats getting your feet on the side walk and exploring up close and personal!

A friend and I spent almost 7 solid days hoofing it around Asuncion, Paraguay once (and sometimes after midnight), and boy what a difference in perspective that made. A good difference at that!

I would never want to live in a place that I hadn't walked around in the middle of the night. Not just to be sure its comfortable, but also to know that a bar or dance club doesn't open up at 2am!

I feel your pain in trying to sort out the best route to take when you are looking for a rental place, and not really knowing if the agents are laughing "AT" you or "WITH" you.

If I may ask, what agencies provided you with the prices?

Good questions. I have been doing my homework for quite a while and knowing that I did not want an expensive home but one on the outskirts of David in the "country" so to speak, I really believe that those homes are out there. It's just me, my dog, and a lot of gardening and exploring.

I guess I will find out when I get there in January, but I will do my best.

I am coming permanently on Jan. 15, 2012. I am staying at a hotel in David for 30 days to give me time to find a rental.

If anyone knows someone who knows someone who wants to rent out their home (2b, 2b) in David or on outskirts, please please let me know. Finding a place to rent instead of staying at a hotel for 30 days is a bit more appealing. One dog, me, 2 cats and maybe sone land to garden.
