Economy Gre 8.1% in 2006

Official figures this released this week show that Panama's economy grew by 8.1% in 2006 against a 6.4% growth in 2005. It was higher than expected and the government feels it is because of the prudent handling of the public finances.
The construction sector was the highest at 17.4% growth which reflects a continuing property boom.
The expansion of the Panama cthis year will dominate the finances for years to come. The are adding a new lane and two 3 chamber locks at both ends. However, this will also cause a raise in toll fees and the public is not happy with that.
