A Harvard medical school professor studied the benefits of cocas drinking for years in Kuna people of Panama. The Kuna typically drink 40 cups of cocoa a week. "He found that the risk of 4 of the 5 most common killer diseases: stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabetes, is reduced to less then 10% in the Kuna."This is just amazing. I love cocoa; I never would have guessed how actually beneficial it was. Then again, the Kuna people are drinking real cocoa, not Nestles from a packet.

Wow that is amazing that cocoa helps your health! Too bad Nestles isn't good for you like that.

Be careful not to confuse COCA with COCOA. COCA is a medicinal plant; the same one used to manufacture cocaine. Tea made from the leaves of the coca plant have many health benefits and can be chewed raw or used to make tea. A far cry from the stuff Nestle makes!COCOA, on the other hand, is chocolate; called cacao in Spanish.

I agree with the last post about the big difference between coca and cocoa. Cocoa as we all know is chocolate have flavanols, this flavanols is present in some plants and teas and some studies proved that it have some sort of health benefits. Actually manufacturers of Mars and M&Ms are trying to make medications from flavanols. So I think cocoa really have health benefits to our body aside from it literally makes our teeth ache and make fills our belly with fats.

Chocolate is delicious and I´ve heard that it has health benefits. Chewing coda leaves, called "chachar" in Perú, releases an energizing substance that is not cocaine. It jus allows people to continue functioning full of energy for a long time. Something like caffeine, but different. Sheers!

If someone had not pointed that out, I would not have figured out the difference between the two. Nestle and those kinds of products have all these original nutrients refined and so the health benefits, if there are any, are minimal.I surely will try out taking the coca drink. I guess cocoa too has its own health benefits too

Well there is really so much more than just being there to satisfy our cravings for sweets, and extremely delicious desserts. That is what chocolate have for us in store. However we should be very cautious on how much chocolate we eat and drink. For sometimes or more of the times too much consumption of them would give us troubles as well. But i love the idea of therapeutic effects when you eat chocolates.

I think we should still eat chocolates in moderation. I know that chocolates are rich in proteins but also it contains lots of fats too.. So to be able to get rid or to prevent the occurrence of such diseases, better live healthy and eat healthy. As we all know, everything that are consumed in excess are bad. Try to eat chocolates in moderation, do not be tempted!

Can cocoa really be considered as good medicine? I cannot imagine this being so, as I have never heard of such a thing ever.

Cocoa was used in ancient mayan civilizations to cure everything. I was used in it's raw state and ground and used as salt, seasoning, topping, medicine and even as tribal marking material. The medicinal properties could be endless we just have to tap into them.

I have to agree on that. They said that there are lots of health benefits from eating chocolates, well aside from it is a comfort food for some, like me. In our place we roast dried the cocoa first and then roast it in a large pan. After that we ground it and then mold it, and viola, we now have 100% cocoa to enjoy. We also used it when we cook, particularly during breakfast. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
