Lawyer fees

Thank author of this post/commentI'm planning to move to Panama sometime in the summer of 2012. I'm conducting research in terms of how much is going to cost me to get my resident visa. I just contacted a legal firm and the price quoted was:

1. Process my pet documentation = $500.00

2. Administrative (government)fees = $750.00

3. Lawyer fees = $1, 600.00

I lived in Latin America a long time ago, but at the time there was two prices for everything, the price they wanted you to pay and the price they would accept. It seems like this firm want me to pay the price they want. What do you think? Are these prices fair or not? Feedback will be greatly appreciated

Muchas gracias y sigan haciendo el buen trabajo que siempre han hecho.

Samuel

Thank author of this post/comment"Prices"

In the USA people always get prices from a few places to compare... why not do that in Latin American too?

Generalization about Latin America:

- Special (higher) prices for Gringos, especially from places offering English speaking services

- Special (higher) prices for services found on the web.

The above especially relating to Real Estate.

You seem to know Spanish well, why not look for a good "local" lawyer? Or do the tramites yourself?

Joe,

Thanks for the feedback, sure I probably can do it myself, but I want to make sure it is taken care without any problems (assuming local lawyers can do that, and I'm sure they do). You all went through this and you know how much you paid and I guess what I'm asking is if what you paid is in line with the fees posted on my original message.

Samuel
