maintaining pensionado status

Thank author of this post/commentI'm checking into acquiring pensionado status in Panama. I am told that to maintain pensionado status, a person is required to live at least six months out of every year in Panama. There will be years when I might want to stay in the U.S. longer than six months, to take care of my aging mom, or attend to other family matters.

Question: Does the Government of Panama actually check on how much time we spend here, and penalize us or revoke our pensionado status if we are caught in the act of spending more that six months outside of Panama during a given year?

I recently got my pensionado card and on it is written 'indefinitamente'. My lawyer never mentioned any restrictions. She just said you are free to live here for the rest of your life. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

People who come as tourists have to go to another country every 3 months and then re-enter Panama after a couple of hours or more.

Norman--Thanks for your reply. There's much to like about Panama, but it's also good to get back to the U.S.
