| On getting a gun permit in Panama * On getting a gun permit in Panama ...I only have second hand information on this so far, but I believe you can, if you have residency. I'm pretty sure it's very similar to Costa Rica. Handguns and shotguns are easy to get, and it's not difficult to get a carry-permit for the handgun. Probably easier than in most U.S. States. Another problem with Costa Rica is, because of the taxes, almost all handguns are $1100. Even the base-line Glocks. [Which you can buy used in the U.S. for about $350-$450] I've been told that in Panama, you can't own high powered rifles. But I have a feeling that the guy who told me this was talking more along the lines of AK's and semi autos. I'll have to check, but I bet handguns are cheaper in Panama, because of the Canal, they don't need to tax all of the consumer purchases. Read the rest from "Costa Rica Jones"... |

| "Expats and guns in Panama"
I found this:For expats who have legally become a resident of Panama and wish to buy a gun....You must have a residency or be a Pensionado (retired). If you have permission to buy the firearm you can carry it concealed on your person, in your pocket or purse, in your vehicle etc. There are no concealed carry permits in Panama, if you buy the gun lawfully you can carry it concealed but exposed carry of the firearm is not allowed. This page tells you about what guns are available and the process of buying them...but are there any locals there who can say whether they think carrying a gun is necessary or a good idea? |
