I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but what about the popular American shows here in the U.S., are they shown in Panama? Shows like Grey's Anatomy, Lost, etc.

You find most of the common US cable channels, but not so much the US Networks (ABC, NBC, CBS). Many of the programs have subtitles in spanish, some are dubed in Spanish.

Some of those programs are broadcast on the local broadcast channels and they are always dubbed in Spanish. The local broadcast channels also carry a variety of Spanish soap operas probably from Mexico and Colombia.

CNN Espanol is usally carried and sometimes an English CNN channel. Hugo Chavez in Venezuela setup a network to compete with CNN, but I have yet to see it, so I guess it isn't so popular. He gives a 6 hour televised speech in Venezuela every Sunday, if that is carried on his news network that should be enough to keep anyone from watching!

Karen, I had the same questions but I answered them since I got here. You have too have a more expensive cable sistem. I see all the shows directly from USA but you can not se channels like fox for Do you think You can Dance or American Idol but Ii do see Greys Anantomy, Ugly Betty Private Practice and others but It is not the same whithout that It will be really bad to live here.

Karen, The cable channels are not the same and there are far fewer channels to choose from. Some will feature movies in English with Spanish subtitles.

I saw an add for Directv somewhere in Panama City, can't remember where....probably not the same directv as US though. A satellite system may be your best bet???

Yes you will have to get Satellite TV to get U.S. stations. Several of our friends have Satellite and have no issues with the amount of programs they get. Lots of Sports, News and prime time programs in English. After all it is dished in. Try to find an Expat living down in the area you are considering moving to and see if they have Satellite. You may find it difficult as many retirees don't watch a lot of TV...too much to do. Satellite down there runs about $60. per month. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, I check this forum a couple times a week and will respond. Again, , , , , Hope you find this helpful.

"TV Shows"

I saw this on another post. Not sure how it all works yet, but you may want to check into it.

Try Hulu.com, Joost.com or SurfTheChannel.com for TV or movies

"Sling Box is the answer!!"

Sling Box is sold in the US at best Buy etc. (about $150.00)

If you have cable or satellite TV in the US it will hook up to your system (as long as you have internet and you will be able to watch whatever account you have in the US anywhere in the World!! including Panama as long as you have an internet connection }

Jim from New York..........

"lots of nature in Panama"?

Yes, there is, but a lot more in the USA.

In the past 6 months I visited:

CHIRIQUE and all it has to offer

BOCAS DEL TORO

DAVID

KUNA INDIANS

CONTINENTAL DIVIDE

BOQUETE

SANTIAGO

CHITRE

COLON

DARIEN

PORTOBELLO

COCLE

LOS SANTOS

SMITHSONIAN LABS

And although I did see some impressive sights, PANAMA (IMHO) is highly OVER RATED!

One trip for me and I'm DONE!
