Trying to find a website with names of major stores in David and also pictures of the town. Can't seem to find anything and we will be going there to buy things for our move to Bocas del Toro. Help is appreciated.

Cosco, Romero's, and plenty of small buss. on calle quarta. Noise is a problem, but when in Panama, no way to get away from it..:)

Unfortunately, David, even though it is the third largest city in Panama, is mostly a market town. However, in March David hosts the Feria Internacional de David where international companies exhibit their products and services to Panama. Also you are only about a 45 minute drive from Paso Canoas, the border of Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro so I'm sure you will be able to find almost anything you are looking for.

I can't imagine living in a place without proper shopping available. I would be like living in a countryside away from the maddening crowds. If you like country living I guess it would be ideal to just have a country market to shop at but what do you do if you want things like furniture and televisions or computers? Do you have to go miles to a place to find such things?

What is "proper" shopping? I haven't lived in a country with Walmart for 5 years or so and don't miss it a bit.In Montevideo, Uruguay there is a Geant store which I suppose is supposed to be on par with Walmart. I find it the least interesting place to go shopping, though a friend who is living here temporarily goes there regularly.
Here there are plenty of places to buy TV's, furniture, computers and everything else you can imagine without going for miles (I can't speak for David, Panama though). And, unlike Walmart, many of the furniture stores are actual factories so you can have it make anyway you like, plus your supporting local workers with all your purchases.
Another refreshing place to go is San Andres, Colombia, as there is no McDonalds there!

What are you looking for in the way of major stores? I'm with Sweetness on the one hand and Lee on the other. As long as there's a grocery store, good restaurants, and coffee close by, the rest I can drive to.

You can find just about everything you will need for a home in David! The only thing missing is a decent furniture store, but maybe I have not found it yet. At the intersection of the Pan Am Hwy and the road to Boquete is a mall with stores like (but with different names) Lowe's (building supplies, etc), Circuit City (elec. goods), Super Walgreens (big pharmacy with general goods), a big store called Super Baru (like a Wallmart with food), El Rey (a grocery). Just a mile or so away is Price Right, which is a membership store like Costco. If anyone has ideas about furniture (NOT the store called 98 or Furniture City) let me know!

I don't have anything against Wal-Mart. I think it is a great place to shop. They have so many different variety of things. And the prices aren't to bad.

What she needs is Ebay or Amazon. Some of the merchants there offer door to door delivery though it takes some time and cost more. Or if you are really on the rush, then try to go to local stores within the area. You might find better items and better prices and it might be fun also. If you're to lazy, just ask someone to do the shopping for you.

I agree with Benny. Wal Mart has everything. I always say to my wife, if wal mart does not have it, than you do not need it!

If you can buy it at walmart you do not need it! Why not support your small local and interest businesses?

If you want all the access on various technology and convenience of science and technology then you'd better stay in your own home or go to a busy region such as New York City. If you'll ask me I'd rather stay in a quite serene town of Cabo Polonio in Uruguay. It is serene and relaxing though they don't have proper electricity and paved roads, the experience is really worth while. I've been there with a friend last year and won't mind coming back.

Excuse me??!?? This is a forum about PANAMA that is a little country in Central America. And, this topic is about Shopping in David (a city in Panama).
Now, I don't think New York City or Cabo Polonia in Uruguay is of interest to anyone looking to go shopping in David, Panama!

Found a few wbsites of stores in David: www.casagala.net, www.smrey.com. We are here in Panama to be away from cities like LA, NY etc. Selections here in David are acceptable. If you don't like the furniture selections you can always have it custom made for you (at a fraction of the price for a similar item manufactured in the US). Since you are shipping it to Bocas, a trip to Panama City may be justified for a nice shopping trip.

David is a great place. Full of first rate shops. It is one of the largest cities in Panama, a country well known for its first rate shopping and natural beauties. Here is the official web site for the city of David. There all can see it´s location and offerings.
Do not hesitate, friends, take a swing down to David. You will not be sorry!
Much peace!

It is important to know the best places to go and shop when you are to go anywhere. In my case, I collect stuffs that are from everywhere that I visit. Like when I go to a certain country, I see to it that I buy something to represent that country so that when i got home I got something to remember my visit. Have a great day guys :)
