Horses in Chiriqui Panama Moving to Panama was a chance to fulfill a lifetime dream of having horses to ride everyday. This dream became a fast reality over the last year. It was easy enoug to have one horse but now there are four and all of them will be living on our property in the mountains of Chiriqui.Boquete Panama is in Chiriqui, where the weather is wonderfully cool and green, the grasses are lush, and the trails to ride are plentiful and still, rather undisturbed. As I recall, the horses back home (Canada) were obstreperous and challenging to manage. It required leaving them in a stable where experienced stable hands managed their living quarters and their routines. Not so in Panama. Horses seem to be born with manageable qualities: calm, obedient, attentive and very easygoing characters. We've recently moved the horses to our own coffee farmette and we are in the process of building stables. The horse graze on the land and are quite content being free to roam here. When they see one of us, they immediately approach (unlike the horses I remember who would run as fast as they could!). This morning is a sunny morning, like most mornings in Boquete Panama. During the rainy season, this is the time to plan trail rides and to enjoy dry weather. In the afternoons, clouds are prevalent making a trail ride a risky if not, wet affair. Panama offers many opportunities for a new lifestyle. If the countryside and cool climate are important factors, there are several areas in Panama offering wonderful opportunities. If urbanism and warmth are more important, Panama City is bustling and busy. If one wants beaches, ocean and sand....there are many hot spots, my own favorite, being Playa Blanca. I look forward to riding the horses on the beaches, in the mountains and in the countryside of Chiriqui. |
