Why Puerto Armuelles, Panama? What are your desires and how does Puerto Armuelles fit into them?

You want to buy a house first? Why not rent, get settles and your other needs worked out while you search for a house?

Hank

Hank: Thanks for the reply. The reason for Puerto is that I wanted a small city away from heavy tourist traffic close to the mtns as well as the ocean. You are probably right about rental . I just didn"t think about it. Are rental houses availabe? Hank , you have been very helpful. That is why I posted . Glenn

I would like to locate Thomas Seddon formerly from Sandy Lake, PA USA. Phone number and e-mail address if possible. Visiting Panama this year end... Please reply via e-mail: tdanceman@yahoo.com

thank you...

Glenn, yes there are rental houses available all over Panama, you just have to know where to look or who to ask, although you might want to consider the purchasing side of it since everything in Panama is going up in Price if you decide to sell the property in the near future you will still make a profit off of it.

if you have any further questions feel free to e-mail me

How far is Puerto Armuelles from the Costa Rican border? I haven't been able to find a detailed enough map to get an accurate distance.

I am concerned with the 12K law about non Panamaians owning land on the border.

Thanks

Would like to retire in Puerto Armuelles. My wife is from Puerto and it would be great to retire there.

I am going to retire to Panama. Need to know what I have to do to bring a small woodworking business with me. What would import taxes and duties be on my machinery (table saw, joiner, planer, shaper, etc.)? I make outdoor furniture (as a hobby).

Hey yall, I'd love to answer all of your questions individually but none of you left an e-mail address where you can be contacted.

so, any questions you might have as far as legal paperwork to come to Panama, if your searching for a property, or have geographical questions, migration Visas, etc.

feel free to send me an e-mail at gsun@hb-realty.com

and I'll gladly answer any questions you have individually.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Comment #15 Old Pana in Okie Land from Tulsa,Ok. -

12K law?

Thast a new one to me. If you in Panama, you own the land, except in protected areas.

Maybe some one got a better idea on what is he taling about?

Puerto is about 45 minutes from the border with costa rica. (any one got a milage number?)

Comment #16 Tracy from Canada -

How lovely it would be to live on the water in Panama! What are typical home prices there? Rent? Is it a lot more expensive to live on the beach?

Hello. Does any one have information about the BIG oil refinery to be built in Puerto Armuelles? Does any one have the exact location? Which side of the bay is it going to be built on? The trade promotion agreement (TPA) guaranties fare market price for US investors in the case of an expropriation. Is there any chance to get reasonable compensation for a small piece of land in Panama when expropriated by a 7 billion dollars national priority project?

Tanks for you help.

Bought a home in the Las Palmas area of Puerto Armuelles last year. Love it. As the crow flies, it is a matter of just a few miles to Costa Rica. If you go thru the checkpoint at the frontera it will take you about half an hour by car. David is about an hour and a half by car.

For the most part, the locals are favoring the refinery as it will take up some of the economic slack that the departure of United Fruit Company caused. My sense is that the refinery will be built on the ula road south of the city. I have not heard of an exact location.

Lynda: c'mon down! Get ahold of Bethany Strong for trustworthy real estate info. She is my neighbor in Puerto Armuelles.

Comment #26 Robert Shakerdge (190.33.210.56) - Sun May 11 09:14:01 2008

Hola All, I have been reading this blog as i have recently moved to Puerto from Golfito Costa Rica....... I am renting !

I MUST clear up some bad info here and warn all about so called good realators..... ONLY Panamanians can be realtors and I know of none in Armuelles...... I have a partner who gets emails from the women Betheny and I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS /#%(XX

# 1... All of Armuelles is clearly within 10 kilometers of the border and google earth shows this !!! ... This month the Registry in David finally realized this too.......They have been using old info from 50 plus years ago of how long it took to ride a horse.... ha ha ha ha ha ha

2 # It is illegal for foreigners to own land here PERIOD.....

3 # It is also illegal to own land in a Panamanian Corporation if there are foreign shareholders PERIOD

It is also (currently ) illegal for you to own a Panamanian Corporation with a specific codisil allowing foreign ownership !

WHY ?????

This can be verified by all who think i am full of poop by visiting the US Embessey website under the topic of buying property in Panama...... Specifically ARTICLE # 121 of the Panama Tax Code (like the US IRS ) which forbids foreign owner within 10 Ks from an International border and it states clearly DON'T believe any Panamanian Corporation who claims they have this right !!!!! It has been tested by several lawyers and has stood up in the highest court.......

So, buyer bewhere and all that jazz and i live here if anyone wants to visit and get the scoop.......

Also, to the person who says she is a realtor for Direct land Sale....... she aint a realtor and the owner is very helpfull and is trying to get a lisenced person.... bueno suerte, bob

Comment #27 Robert Shakerdge (190.33.210.56) - Sun May 11 09:35:52 2008

Hola Antonin, you are mistaken concerning the oil project. The refinery being built is for sugar. There is a pipeline project that runs from Armuelles to Bocus del Toro now , but, their going to add a second pipe , so, crude can flow in both directions.

My only concern with this wonderfull project is the byproducts and which way the wind will take the fumes..... Costa Rica has some issues with simalar projects, but, this town NEEDS the employment........

PS Concerning ownership here..... if you owned before may 2003 your grandfathered as best as I can see........

pura vida, bob

Comment #28 Robert Shakerdge (190.33.210.56) - Sun May 11 09:50:06 2008

Hola All, I forgot to list my email address..... rshakerdge@gmail.com Any questions or for links to verify what i've said will be sent....... Time to go fishing.......

If after all of what i said you love the place so much you must own........ speak to me in person when you visit..... I am a retired person and I don't want your money...... fishing tips to catch tuna o/k

Comment #29 jorge sherwood (200.124.11.182) - Thu May 29 22:14:46 2008

I have lived here for over five years and the refinery, is definitely going to be an oil refinery, that will process raw crude brought in by ships. So the whole coast is subject to pollution and the potential of oil spills. And don't for minute think that it can't and won't happen. Also secondary, are the hydro carbon emissions (smell)which will be prevelent. Ask yourselves if you have ever known a refinery that doesn't smell tghey all give off emissions of sulphur (rotten egg smell).

My knowledge is based on that fact that I was hired by the Panamanian government to conduct english lessons for future employees of the expanded panama cand the refinery.

As some some one said earlier buyers be very careful this isn't North America, and none of the rules and regulations

do not apply and you have no recourse. If you have a problem the courts won't help you and forget your embassies, Panama considers you a visitor. My family will be recieving our Panamanian citzenship, even though we were Canadian, and in many circles we are still considered Gringos, which believe is considsered by many Panamanians as a derogatory term.

"But when in Rome do as the Romans", you can have a wonderful life. But forget everything that you know and leave all your expectations back in the U.S, or Canada. Your life will be easier. Oh! and truly disregard all the B.S. that the realtors tell you especially the American ones, who are not legally entitled to work here.
