someone need to be crazy to come here

Thank author of this post/commentWhen people talk about Panama, or show you pictures about Panama, they really do not say how hard and difficult is to live here. First of all, there is not cheap at all to live here. Car insurance is very expensive, light bill expensive unless you want to live with no A/C all they as some of the Americans here, what about the not existence of traffic lights, cable tv is is a joke, you can see the same shows for more than 7 months without change. example, I saw the movie 88 minutes a maybe a year ago the same movie is in cd in USA in Panama to see it you have to pay 9.00 on a VIP screen. It is a way to steel from the Panamenian people.

If you want to have your kis in a good school, you will need more that 1000.00 a month, besides that your kid can be kill in any accident buses do not need insurance and drivers cramp kd in there buses.

I would never put my kids in a situation like that. The Police(any police) can stop you harrast you and ask you for money if they really want to do it.

"MOVED OUT OF PANAMA!"

Marco is absolutely correct!

My 12 months in Panama revealed:

50% HIGHER light bills than MIAMI!

30% HIGHER price for gasoline per/gal

40% HIGHER auto insurance

30% HIGHER real estate compared to MIAMI! (I reside in both cities!)

40% HIGHER to purchase a new car

30% HIGHER for HOTELS that DO NOT COMPARE to the US

20% HIGHER groceries

PANAMA is NOT safe, I don't care what anybody sez, I lived there for over a year and traveled all over the country. My partner (the above poster) was murdered in our new high-rise apartment, and yes, the building had cameras and security..........

the problem is trying to get the police to investigate the murder. The chief investigator could NOT get to the apartment to investigate because all the government cars were being used, and then there was the fact that he was gay, a big no-no in Panama!

If it's not "tied" down, it will get stolen!

My friend built a new business, before he could turn on the electricity the outside power panel and all the wiring was stolen 3 times!....... and it's in a neighborhood!

Basically, PANAMA is NOT the cheap haven that some say it is, unless you want to "down-grade" to a lower life-style, because it is impossible to live in PANAMA cheaper than the USA!.....

OR live in BOQUETE, which sounds beautiful, but save your money, North Carolina and 49 other States are MORE beautiful than ANY part of Panama!......There is NOTHING in BOQUETE but a bunch of INDIANS that have increased the crime-rate to alarming levels......don't believe me?....just ask any Realtor in Boquete or someone that lives there! I know an American that moved to Boquete from Miami 2 years ago and he is also coming back to FLORIDA due to the crime and inconveniences.

But Good Luck with whatever your decision is to move to PANAMA.....I would suggest, like someone else recommended, try renting for 1 year then make your decision.

Thank author of this post/comment"Spend some time in Panama before you buy..."

Readers, I hate to admit but Daniel and Marco (previous posts) are correct. I’m from Panama, was born there, both parents are from Panama. I have lived in the U.S. for almost 39 years now. I left Panama when I was 16, I visit often. My dream is to retire in Panama one day, but things have to improve before I make the move. Listen, cost of living is NOT as cheap as many people are portraying it to be. Crime is so out of control right now, its crazzyyy. Stores in the interior close before dark due to the current high crime, not to mention that during the day they have armed security guards with shotguns, even at small convenience stores like 7-11’s (we call them “el Chinito or el Chino”). This is happening NOW… I was there for two weeks in December, 2009 with my wife (American) and my son, first visit for both of them (been married for 28 years, my son is 27). Well, hate to admit it but they both were extremely disappointed. My wife will go back with me to visit but not to live until things improve drastically, I don’t see that happening on the years I have left, my son, well, he doesn’t want to go back, you can imagine how I feel about the dream I had to return one day, specially now getting close to retirement age… Panama is not for everyone, take your time, visit, rent (don’t buy…) for a year or so, see if you and you better half likes it first, if it’s for you then go for it.
