| Looking to relocateHello, I am looking to relocate to Panama. I am currently the manager of a retail store for the largest boaters supply company in the U.S. I am not able to get much information from searching the web and would love any feedback as to employment opportunities in the area and how to go about making contacts. I am currently located in the panhandle of Florida and have been considering this relocation for some time and feel that now is the time. Thank you, Matt |

Comment #403/21/10 13:09Paradise, Veraguas, Panama!!!!!! | "Real estate and relocation help on western Azuero Peninsula"
If you wanted to look into rural living in another area that is developing, please feel free to look into the western Azuero Peninsula. We have a growing community here comprised of ocean view (mountain) and ocean front properties. We have lone real estate sites along with lots that are part of developments that will include green spaces and enhance the natural landscape. Expats are looking more and more into this area because of its inexpensive prices, great local community, commanding western views and coastlines, and of course the natural landscape of mountains and coastline so close together. Please feel free to contact us and we can answer any questions regarding Panama travel, relocating or legal concerns. best, j and a |
| "Employment Opportunities in Panama"
Hi Matt, Congratulations on your choice of Panama. You will not regret your move here. As far as employment opportunities go however, they can be tough. Especially if you want to stay in your current field. Retail positions can only be filled by Panamanians in most cases. As a manager however, you might be able to do something as an executive. Or, start your own company. Maybe the company you work for now has or needs a Panamanian branch? Which you could run? That business point, is probably going to be your best bet, so I will mention it again. Panama has many opportunities available for new businesses. But getting a job can be difficult. You have to be able to prove that you have a skill set that is necessary and not available anywhere else. Unfortunately, with retail, that can be tough. With management, it can be slightly easier. There are also opportunities in things like teaching English, technical fields, etc. Good luck with your journey. You will often hear discouraging news, but if there is a will, there is almost always a way. Feel free to checkout my book, which isn't Panama specific but discusses a number of aspects about living and working abroad. I don't normally plug it in my comments, but it is relevent to your question :-). |

Check out the section of free banner ads here... that would be a great place to plug your book...Now back to all the great ways to live and work in Panama... |
| "wish for more"
This is a little off topic. I am also relocating to Panama sometime in Christmas. My husband is going to be posted to a subsidiary there. I visit this forum everyday. We visit forums mainly to share tips and experiences. But I am mostly disapointed because for every one post sharing experiences, there would be 4 or 5 posts of advertisement. At the end, you do not know if any of these information is "independant", or actually guided by other motives. |
| "Ask questions. Make Comments."
I think also for every 1 active participant there are hundreds if not more inactive participants (ie: readers). I think by asking questions and making comments it will help draw more of the readers into active participation. With luck the "real" people can out number those with an agenda to push! |

We had similar problems as those expressed here when we researched where to retire - so many sites were either outright misleading or just fronts for selling me something. My wife and I ended up driving from Canada through the USA, Mexico and all the way to Panama to investigating the best retirement destinations along the way and see them for ourselves - 12, 123 km with our two big dogs! I posted our insights on my site under the title "The Epic Journey". We ended up buying in Panama, and have many articles posted on the site answering questions people have asked me about moving to and living in Panama - I am not selling anything and membership is free. Hopefully you will find it helpful. Best of luck. Rob Brown (or as they call me in Panama - Roberto Chocolaté. PS: Panama is NOT perfect - but it is pretty good. |

| "Looking to live in Panama"
I'm considering living in Panama in about a year and half from now. I work inthe Oilfield and can live anywhere there is good airports. I'm about to be a widow and and one son left to finish college. That's way I'm a year and a half away. I'm interested in taxes, income and property, the best area for expats. I'm planning on my first visit this fall and expect to make at least 4 to 6 before deciding anything. I would hope to be able to meet with some expats and get their thoughts on the good, the bad and the ugly. Thanks for any replies. My e-mail address is: dls021250@yahoo.com |
| "Definately look around"
Panama has a very wide variety of different living "conditions" for lack of a better word. From quiet to loud, beaches to mountains, etc. Make sure you figure out what you think you are looking for, and then try it for a while before buying. Panama real estate is still moving in most areas, but it has slowed down. I have friends who purchased in a hurry, and now wish they had purchased in a different area, but would have very little hope of trying to sell quickly, where they are located. |
| "Wow what a great blog......"
Me and my fiance have some good friends in Panama and have decided to take the move. After the current OIL SPILL situation. Florida might be off the charts for a while. We both are heavily involved in the marine industry and will try to start building a clientele. The remoteness and no mansland feeling to Panama is what weve been looking for. We plan to be there by mid 2011 the latest. As curious and interesting of the sea life and ocean we live near today, the USA/FLORIDA. I know that living in Panama will only be the beginning to one of the most amazing journeys and experiences we will endure. |
