You will plan to base your Chiropractic work on expats living in Panama or Panamanians?How much do you get for a session in the USA? What is your expectation for what you can get in Panama? Panamanians can probably afford just a fraction of your USA rates. Expats may feel that because the service is in Panama the price should be relatively cheaper. It could be a tremendous challenge with either client base. Aside from any language or regulatory issues. |

Jim, Thanks for the reply. I plan to provide service to anyone who wants it and needs it. The ex-pat community as well as local Panamanians will benefit from my services. My rates here in the US are irrelevant as common sense and business experience over the past 15 years here in the states says that my fees for service would be MUCH lower there than they are here. Much like reimbursement rates for physician services vary in the US- docs in New York for example are paid more for their service than I am reimbursed here in North Carolina because the cost of living there is much higher than here(at least it used to be!!). With cost of living being much lower there as well as income my fees would reflect what the local market could carry. The amount earned is not nearly as important as a better quality of life- I have been in top 1% of wage earners in the US and trust me the STRESS and PAPERWORK as well as constant battles with getting reimbursed by insurance companies is nothing to be desired. besides, with this nation moving in a more socialist direction and ObamaCare being rammed down our throats looking elsewhere makes a lot of sense espec in the quality of life area. I have thought very far past the how much money can I make issue-besides if all I was thinking about was how much can I make I certainly would not be looking into Panama!! Now that we have diverged, I think my mind is made up in regards to the BIG DECISION so I would like to ask politely if anyone may know where I can go to get more info on the subject at hand and/or know of any chiropractors that are in the area that can answer regulatory and general business questions for the health care field in Panama. Douglas, I am also an Alternative Medicine Doc here in the States looking to relocate to Panama and I totally agree with you on leaving this "jungle" behind and improveing the quality of life elsewhere. I wish I had more info for you, just wanted to support your decision to move there. Glen |

I have not been back here lately, but I have continued my search for information. It seems to be very difficult to get info regarding my topic, but I was successful in finding out I need to be a naturalized Panama citizen by marriage in order to practice there. I had one person tell me they had a friend who was a Chiropractor down there, but he is on pensionado visa and works at a local hospital and practices under a licensed medical doc's license. I have not been able to verify this.I am planning a trip to Panama in mid June for 2 weeks to find out more. Thanks for your input!! Doug |
